The Cordoba Master Series Torres has narrower nut width and slightly narrower neck than most classical guitars, making it very comfortable to play. It is built with a solid Engelmann spruce top and solid Indian rosewood back and sides. The neck is Spanish cedar topped with an African ebony fingerboard. Each instrument is appointed with a rosette and purflings in keeping with the original. A few modern refinements have been added, such as a truss rod, geared tuning machines. This particular guitar has a French polish finish prevalent for the period, and non-gut strings. Even with its modern enhancements, this instrument is a very authentic interpretation of a Torres.
Why Consider the Cordoba Master Series Torres?
Here's an opportunity to own a guitar with a great pedigree! Antonio de Torres was one of the most important guitar makers of the 19th century, and today Torres guitars are as revered and collectible among guitarists as Stradivarius violins are among violinists. The Cordoba Master Series design team headed up by luthier Kenny Hill has taken great pains to recreate an 1856 model Torres that exemplifies the design, voicing and feel of the great master's work.
Several original Torres guitars, most notably an 1856 model, were studied and played to truly understand the essence of these iconic instruments’ amazing voice and feel. Nothing was overlooked. The thicknesses of the tops, backs, sides, and braces were meticulously measured. Bracing patterns were mapped, and the vibrational characteristics were rigorously analyzed. Applying all of this knowledge and adhering to traditional construction methods, the Cordoba luthiers have been able to recreate an instrument that possesses the same characteristics and magic as the original 1856 Torres on which they based the Cordoba Torres model.
All guitars purchased on the All Strings Nylon website undergo a thorough setup performed by a professional luthier, Chuck Marfione, at no extra cost to our customers. The setup includes the following steps:
- Inspect the instrument to ensure its cosmetic and structural integrity
- Level and polish the frets, adjust the nut and saddle and, where present, the truss rod to achieve optimal action and eliminate string buzz
- Adjust intonation if deemed necessary
- Condition the fingerboard to protect it from dirt, perspiration, and drying out
- Inspect the tuning machines to ensure they turn smoothly
- Pre-stretch the strings to minimize string break-in
- Test the electronics if present
