'Hawaiian strings'? I beg to differ...Not one for reviews but would like to save others the trouble and nuisance of making an unnecessary purchase if considering buying these soprano uke strings based on the name 'Hawaiian' as I did.
Thought it might be time for a string/sound change from the Aquila Nylgut strings that came standard on my soprano uke, and oh well what a mistake that was with this D'Addario ‘Hawaiian’ uke string set.
In short, no matter what I did testing 3-different tunings --standard, 1/2-step down, and per the 'Hawaiian’ string spec of 1-step up-- with no hope for a good recognizable sound quality esp. not if strumming as I do most of as a novice late in life first-time uke player.
The good news is I had also purchased another set of strings (from ASN of course!) at the same time as these "Hawaiian' strings and now that is quite a different experience which I have not yet been able to fully appreciate.
As it is I am waiting for these new strings (D'Addario Nyltech, EJ88S) to fully settle down after their initial day or two of re-tunings and stretching. But in the process they are quite enjoyable and very distinctive tonally, supple and with good playability... if you get this set I'm sure you'll find your very own unique appreciation for what they offer you too!Posted on
