The Cordoba 23S is a soprano ukulele featuring a solid ovangkol top paired with ovangkol back and sides, rosewood bridge and fingerboard, mahogany neck, and ovangkol headstock veneer. Ovangkol ranges from rich orange to a darker brown in color, and is commonly streaked with gray, purple, or black. It’s tonally similar to rosewood, with a slightly fuller mid-range. The Cordoba 23S is completely hand crafted in a small boutique workshop.
All ukuleles purchased on the All Strings Nylon website undergo a thorough setup performed by a professional luthier, Chuck Marfione, at no extra cost to our customers. The setup includes the following steps:
I bought this in June 2015, and wanted to wait awhile to write a review. This was my first ukulele, but don't stop reading. I researched a TON of instruments before buying. I wanted something that sounded good and looked good. Therefore, I reasoned it couldn't be something too cheap, but I also didn't want to spend too much since I was new to it. I landed on the Cordoba after doing a lot of reading. The one problem with this particular instrument: there were zero reviews out there. That's why I wanted to write this one. I rolled the dice, and I could not be happier. The instrument is really beautiful, and sounds beautiful. It stays in tune very well. My mother has a $60 Kala, and this thing feels and sounds better, no question. (Mom is a musician, and she too noted this instrument's superior sound.) Who doesn't love those beautiful Hawaiian koas? Last night I went to a store and played a few, out of curiosity. They did indeed sound better, but not $800 dollars better, unless you are a pro I suppose. I also played some Martins (the most expensive brand out there it seems) and only one that I tried ($1800) sounded better than this one. The 23S is very much worth the money! Also, a word about All Strings Nylon. They are great! They set up the uke before shipping, and sent a report with pictures about what they did to set it up. I also spoke with customer service at one point about the return policy. I had some concerns about the short period, and they agreed to lengthen it for me given my particular concern. The ukulele arrived quickly and in perfect condition. Needless to say, I did not return it. Play it pretty much everyday. So, I hope this helps. I rarely write reviews, but felt inspired on this one. And since I relied on so many other helpful posts in my search, I wanted to give back. Enjoy! (Posted on 1/14/2016)
